Hello, what another week it was. Where should I start? About here. So we had our first district meeting this week. It was good. I am in a way old district again. There is me who is at only 5 months out. My comp goes home in 5 months, the district leader goes home at the end of this trasnfer, and his comp goes home next transfer. It is defiantly interesting. But I learn more from these older missionaries and There are way awesome to be around. Elder Newby the DL is from Preston Idaho, I qoute Napolean Dynamite around him a lot. (Preston is where it was filmed) So I told him the last district meeting that we have this transfer that I bring some tater tots. We do a ton of tracting here... I have never knocked on so many doors in my life before. It gets way boring after a while. But we have been blessed to find a couple investigators and potentials while doing so. We have many potential records that we have been going through and seeing them all and also going over all the formers too and paying them all a visit also. We have doubled the amount of investigators since I have been here which is nice because I am used to having a lot of people to teach. Are focus is to find those people who the lord has prepared and also sifting through our investigators we already have. The other day I had the impression of tracting a street where one of our less-actives lived. We did the whole street untill we got two houses before the less actives home which was the last house street. We knocked and a guy was like I really appreciate what you are doing and giong door to door and teaching about Jesus but I am a proistant and I am content right now with that. Then we just started to basically bear testimony to him before he would close the door on us. He then started to open up. It was wonderful how the spirit worked on him because we went from him ast first not wanting anything to do with us but then to us speaking with him for about 45 mins and teaching the whole restoration to him on the front pourch. He then committed to reading the BOM and praying to know if it is true. We have an appointment with him on Thursday so please pray that Alan will be open and humble enough to recieve that witness that it is true. He thought we were J-Dubs at first though which was really funny. They spoil a lot for us because many people think that is us and then we have to tell them oh no we are from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. We usually have to say Mormon also.
The Members here in the Ward are awesome. They make good food here. haha Chinese Buffetts are so big out here in the midwest. All of them have been not very good though. A member forgot that we had dinner with them so they gave us money and we went to a chinese buffett this investigator mentioned us to try that was the best he has ever had. Sometimes I have a hard time trusting people in the Midwest on how food tastes... One person, Shane, who we are teaching is a very knowledgable person of the Bible. It is great because it is easy to teach him for many things. This week we planned to teach the 3rd lesson but we asked him first if there was anything about the Plan of Salvation that he had any questions on. So then he said I have a problem with the Pre-exsistence. So we got talking about it. We left him with scriptures to read in the Bible talking about pre-earth life. and with a chapter in the Book of Mormon talking about the Plan of Salvation also. It is Alma chapters 39 through 42 where Alma is talking to his son Coriaton. I hope he likes them especially all the Bible verses. I have really learned how to use the Bible and how to support the Book of Mormon with it and how they are really two books that go together. There is no contridiction at all. And I love being able to show people that because this is the "Show me State" so they like seeing the written proof. The most important thing of course though is that witness from the spirit that these things are true. There is no doubt in my mind that these things are true that we share and teach others. This is the true church and the Book of Mormon is scripture.
They had a ward activity Saturday night. It was a dinner theatre the youth put on. It was Mafia themed. It was funny how they put it together. There were a few non-members there. A sister Meishio (something spelled like that , I think...) in the ward who was sitting at our table has a son at BYU. When she saw me she came up and said my son says a few of your friends who know my son say hello. It was funny though. She did not get all the names of all the people who said Hi yet but I know of them is Sam. What a small world the Mormon world is. hha not a bad thing. It is a good thing. We had one investigator come to church yesterday. That was nice to see there. She sacrafices a lot to be able to get to church. We had dinner at the Bishops house last night. I had squash for the first time. That was interesting. Bishop Hatch had a son return from his mission this past Week. He was in Monterey Mexico. He is a really cool guy. He still acts like a missionary of course. He was stuck on us like glue at church. It eas really funny. All he wants to do is go out with us and teach, which I am so glad and happy about because we need more members present at our lessons. So it is a good thing. He also just needs to start adjusting to home. haha I hope I am not stuck to missionaries like glue when I return home. haha But that is in 2 years so no time to think about that right now. Anyways I love you all. I am turning 20 this month on the 27th! AHHHHHHHHH! I am getting old :( oh well... I guess that is life. Well peace out Brothers and Sisters!
Love,
Elder Derek Turner
